Several parts of Kottayam continued to deal with the aftermath of severe flooding and heavy rainfall earlier in August. Erattupetta, Pala, Kanjirappally and Koottickal were among the worst-affected areas, with residents and businesses working to clean homes and shops after floodwaters receded.
Residents in different parts of Kottayam district are being informed about scheduled power interruptions and traffic restrictions on August 24. Local authorities and utility services have advised residents and motorists to plan their travel and daily activities accordingly.
An Onam Samrudhi farmers’ market has opened in Erumeli as part of the seasonal agricultural initiative. The market is jointly organised by the Erumeli Grama Panchayat and the local Krishi Bhavan, providing residents with access to locally grown agricultural products during the festival season.
Onam-season markets are getting underway across Kottayam, with Supplyco, Kudumbashree, the Agriculture Department and Consumerfed organising special markets. The initiatives aim to make essential goods and locally produced agricultural products available to residents at affordable prices ahead of Onam.
Construction has begun on a 280-metre overbridge at Kothanalloor railway gate in Kottayam. The project is expected to improve traffic movement and provide smoother travel for motorists who frequently face delays at the railway crossing.
