The Kerala College Sports League has launched an initiative to revive volleyball across college campuses. The programme aims to increase student participation, identify young talent and create more opportunities for competitive volleyball. Colleges in Kottayam and other districts can benefit from the renewed focus on campus-level sports.
The Kerala Cricket Association has been developing cricket infrastructure at CMS College, Kottayam, under a long-term agreement. The planned facilities include a cricket ground, pavilion, practice facilities, gymnasium and football ground, with floodlights included in a later phase. The project is expected to strengthen cricket training and sporting opportunities in the district.
School-level athletes across Kottayam are taking part in district-level competitions as part of Kerala’s 2026 school sports programme. The state school sports platform includes events such as athletics, football, cricket, tennis, chess, cross country, water polo and kalaripayattu, providing opportunities for young athletes to compete and progress to higher levels.
Football enthusiasm swept across Kottayam as fans gathered to celebrate the FIFA World Cup. The city’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium became a talking point during the football season, although its poor condition and waterlogging also renewed discussions about the need to improve local sporting infrastructure.
Powerlifters from Solomon’s Gym Fitness Centre and Sports Club, Kalathippady, brought recognition to Kottayam by winning 20 medals at the All Kerala State Classic Powerlifting Championship. The team secured 7 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze medals across sub-junior, junior, senior and masters categories.
